After playing most of the Grand Theft Auto games during my time, and enjoying them all, I was interested to see how the game would transfer into a pocket-size experience. The characters in the game are still larger than life and the game still provides that rush of adrenaline that made it so famous on the Playstation One and Two.
At first I was extremely sceptical and was ready to be let down but after placing in the UMD disc and starting the game I knew that the game had not lost any of it’s cutting edge.
The graphics of Liberty City Stories equal that of its Playstation Two counterpart and look brilliant on the PSP’s tiny screen. Not only does the game look good but it also sounds good too! The trademark Grand Theft Auto soundtrack is still evident here in all it’s glory and sounds crisp and extremely loud through the PSP’s tiny speakers.
So, how does the game perform? If you are a fan of the consol versions, then you will not notice any differences at all! The controls are the same as on the Playsation Two. However, the only gripe that I have is that the analogue stick on the PSP makes it extremely difficult to drive vehicles on Liberty City Stories as it is far too sensitive, but with persistence, one can get a handle of it eventually.
I have to admit, it is great having this game on the PSP and is still extremely addictive. What can be better than sat on the tube in the morning, playing on your PSP terrorising the fictional town of Liberty City.
If you are looking for the great Grand Theft Auto experience in your pocket, then do not be scared away from the PSP version of Liberty City Stories as the Grand Theft Auto experience is still there, frenetic, fast and unpredictable. You will not be able to put your PSP down for one moment!
