Babyface - Playlist
Playlist is the latest album from the much acclaimed artist, Kenneth 'Babyface Edmonds'. I have been an avid fan of Babyface for many years and his song have inspired me, directed me and also made me dance throughout the years. I follow his latest album news always and I eagerly anticipated the release of his latest album, Playlist. Was I disappointed? Of course not!
Playlist is an album that contains a blend of covers of, in my opinion, classic songs yet also contains an amount of his own material. The whole album is a true blend of soft rock and R&B, staying close to Babyface's niche genre.
Firstly, after seeing the song contents of the album, I was worried that his covers of many classic songs may not live up to the standards the original artists set, but after listening to his cover of James Taylor's 'Fire and Rain', I soon realised the high caliber of this album. Babyface's version of 'Fire and Rain' is has a perfect balance between music styles old and new to produce a truly magical listening experience.
Babyface also performs covers of the following classics on Playlist, James Taylor's 'Fire and Rain, Eric Clapton's 'Wonderful Tonight', Bob Dylan's 'Knocking on Heaven's Door' and Dave Loggins' 'Please Come to Boston. Each of these covers add greatly to the original versions with Babyface's soft melodic voice that draws the listener in with his passion.
Playlist also contains some of Babyface's original material, which is equally impressive as the covers on this album. One of his stand-out songs of his original material is 'Soldier Song', which is a passion- felt song about current day soldiers and our appreciation of them after their lives were lost in the Iraq War.
This is a fantastic album, and can be suited to audiences old and young. There is a perfect balance on this album and is a music listener's paradise. Must be purchased!
