Free weights have become a little outdated recently and I too became extremely disillusioned with the basic exercise routines with my free weights so I looked for something modern and fun that offered incomparable results. I came across the heftily priced Slendertone Fortext Upper Body Trainer.
The Slendertone Fortex uses air-resistance and four different exercises using your chest and shoulders to help build and tone the muscle of your upper body. This is a great concept as you can push yourself as far as you personally can, for example, the harder you push, the harder the Fortex resists.
The Fortex looks a modern piece of exercise equipment, designed in a dark grey and chrome silver, it looks the part. Another modern feature of the Fortex is to incorporate a tiny computer inside the Fortex that helps design a mini workout programme for you depending on your current strength. This information is outputted on a tiny LCD screen towards one end of the Fortex. This feature is like having your own personal trainer! If you are doing your exercise correctly then a high pitched 'happy' beep is given out, but if you are not reaching your targets then a low pitched 'unhappy' beep is given out.
What kind of results can you expect? Personally, I found that the claims that the manufacturers make are a little far fetched for my liking. I found that my strength did increase during the three months that I used the Fortex, but I found that it had made no considerable difference to my muscle shape and tone, which is disappointing for the price that I paid. However, the only advantage is that I enjoyed doing my exercises and with the help of the integrated mini computer, I was encouraged more as I felt I was making progress.
If you are looking for a new way to exercise that is more fun than your current routine, then the Fortex may be the way to go. However, for people who are real bodybuilding enthusiasts then this machine will provide very little results. Expensive, but worth the money for many beginners.
