The JBL Duet is a two speaker system (no subwoofer) targeted for the extreme value market. Basically, people with not much cash to splash out on these speakers.
Thanks to the Duets, now almost anyone can afford a set of speakers that bear a quality brand name. The Duet is a no frills package, with only a single volume knob located on the right speaker.
The specs on the Duet are understandably, quite slim with 12 watts total power, 60 Hz - 20 kHz frequency response and a surprising 80 dB signal to noise ratio (SNR). Most of all, though, the Duets are almost silent. Even when held to the ear at high volume (with no sound playing) the Duets barely make a whisper.
The JBL Duet tries it's hardest to be the best speaker set it can be, and does well. Even if not coming to par with other, more expensive, quality speakers. I think it hits the market at a great place. The base notes on the Duet are slightly hollow, though. They cause vibration, and sometimes really annoying distortion occurs if you try to mess with your EQ too much.
The Duet gives off a great sound for its small size, its small price, and its simplicity. I mean, there's a power cord, and a speaker jack. You can't go wrong. Unless you somehow mistake the green LED's on each speaker to be buttons or something. You also don't need an IQ of 120+ to operate it. Unlike SOME, with loads of fiddly knobs, wires, and excess manuals. No, the JBL is no frills.
Personally, I love the Duet; they are the speakers I use for _EVERYTHING_. Agreed, not everything agrees with them, some songs I listen to are too loud, or low, for one thing... But for most things, they're great.
If you're strapped for cash, or just looking for a decent pair of speakers at a reasonably low price, then look no further than the Duet. They should fill your needs quite suitably.
