Arrested Development is something that I discovered a few years ago late night on BBC 2. When I first saw it listed in the radio times I didn't realise that it was a comedy as the initial plotline to read may not make you think that it is funny. But I found myself watching it one night when I couldn't sleep and it was really funny. Annoyingly the schedule often neglected the series putting it on later and later and at random times and sometimes even abandoning the episodes all together, so I was desperate to own my own copy on DVD.
There are 3 series in total and the series centres around the Bluth family. The Bluth's are a well off American family who has a very successful business in tract housing. However, the head of the company and family, George Senior, is arrested on suspicion of tax fraud and this results in all the assets that the rest of the family have become accustomed to, being frozen, the effects of this sudden streak of poverty is hilarious to watch as each member reacts very differently. Michael Bleuth is the responsible son whose job it is to take over the company while George Sr is otherwise engaged and to keep an eye on his other brothers and sisters, as well as their alcoholic dependant and emotionally stunted mother Lucille (and his son George Michael). His siblings include Gob, an illusionist who loves women, Buster, Lucielle's favourite and doting mummy's boy who is a permanent student, and his attractive girl about town sister Lindsay who is selfish and craves male attention, she is also the wife of struggling bit part actor Tobias who has many of his own hilarious issues.
The series is hilarious but unfortunately Fox didn't seem to feel the same as the series was axed during the third series and even cut down from 22 episodes to 13. All 13 episodes are included along with a mass of extras, if you haven't seen any of them then you should start from the beginning but you must get all 3 series as each series improves.
